Round 2, Game 1 - Highlights from Around the League

Game 1: Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks

Game 1 lived up to the hype on Wednesday night, as the simulation Oilers would send their fans home happy with a 4-3 win.

Zack Kassian opened the scoring for the simulation Oilers in the 1st period, later to be complimented by teammates McDavid and Athanasiou, with goals of their own.

The Canucks were in this game for the duration, however, locked in a tie with the Oilers until past the midway point of the 3rd.

Yamamoto added an empty netter for the Oilers, which appeared to seal the victory, but a late goal by Adam Gaudette gave the Canucks a glimmer of hope in the final 10 seconds.

But, it was not to be for Vancouver, as time would tick down and the Oilers would take a 1-0 series lead.

Full video highlights from the game can be found here.

Game 2 will be LIVE on our Facebook Page
, with Dustin Nielson from TSN 1260 Edmonton on Friday, April 24th at 7:00pm MDT! Don’t miss it!

      Here's What Happened
in the Rest of the League:

Game 1: St. Louis Blues vs. Dallas Stars

It was a goaltending duel in this one, as both Ben Bishop and Jordan Binnington were outstanding, for their respective squads.

Roope Hintz would finally find the scoresheet in the 2nd, being left wide open backdoor with 3.7 seconds left in the frame.

The 3rd period was much of the same; a goaltending showdown which had both goalies make saves worthy of the spots on the Plays of the Month show, which you can find on Sportsnet at absolutely any given time of day, 7 days a week.

Jamie Benn added an empty-netter and the Stars walk away with Game 1, with a 2-0 victory.

Game 1: Philadelphia Flyers vs. Carolina Hurricanes

The rest clearly paid off for the Hurricanes, who swept the Capitals in the 1st Round and had a full week off between games.

They would strike early and often, roaring out to a 5-0 lead and silencing the Philadelphia crowd.

Gritty, clearly upset by being outshone by Penguins mascot Iceburgh in the 1st Round, made his way to the Flyers locker room in the 2nd intermission to give the team a β€œpep talk.” That pep talk turned out to be the mascot shaking his belly vigorously in the face of simulation Flyers forward Claude Giroux.

The Flyers would find the net a few of times in the 3rd, but it was nowhere near enough, as the Canes cruised to a 7-4 Game 1 victory.

Can they deal the same blow to the Flyers, as they did to the Caps in Round 1?

Game 1: Boston Bruins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Game 1 started off slow, evidently setting up a tight checking, hard hitting series; much like the one the Lightning lost to the Blue Jackets last year.

McAvoy and Kucherov would score for the Bruins and Lightning in the opening 20 minutes, but it was the 3rd period when the dialogue completely changed.

Tampa Bay came to play in the final 20, potting 3 goals in the opening 5 minutes of the frame. They wouldn’t look back from there, taming the mighty bruins to the tune of a 4-1 victory.

Post-game, simulation Brad Marchand dodged media questions, stating that he needed to β€œMake it home in time to catch the start of the 10pm showing of Ratatouille on the movie channel.”

      Game 2 goes Saturday.
