Round 2, Game 5 - Highlights from Around the League

Game 5: Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks

Overtime hasn’t been the simulation Oilers friend so far in the #UnitedCup Playoffs and Thursday was no different.

A crazy 1st period saw the Oilers down 4-2, after Leivo, Boeser, Miller and Motte all found the net for Vancouver.

Edmonton’s secondary scoring pitched more than their fair share, with 3 goals from the bottom 6 and a 4th from defenceman Ethan Bear.

The Oilers did hold a 1-goal lead in the 3rd in this game, but Tanner Pearson would tie things up and send us to overtime.

Much like prior playoff games for the Oilers, the OT period would be a short one—and not in their—favour, as Jay Beagle and his glorious moustache would end it, minutes into the 1st OT frame.
Full video highlights from the game can be found here.

The fake Vancouver riots will be on hold for at least 1 more game, as we head back to Vancouver for Game 6, where the Oilers will have another chance to wrap this series up.

Markström will get the start for the Canucks in Game 6, after being replaced by Thatcher Demko in Game 5.

As for the fake Oilers, we are still unsure who will get the call for simulation Game 6. Saturday, May 2nd at 7:00pm MDT LIVE on our Facebook Page. As usual, Dustin Nielson from TSN 1260 will have the play-by-play. We hope to see you there!

      Here's What Happened
in the Rest of the League:

Game 5: St. Louis Blues vs. Dallas Stars

Game 5 between the Blues and Stars was much closer than the final score suggested.

After a 3-goal 1st period, the Stars trailed 2-1 all the way until the midway point of the 3rd, when Esa Lindell would finally tie things up and give the Stars life.

2 fights shortly thereafter tilted the ice noticeably back to the Blues’ advantage, as Robert Thomas would break the deadlock minutes later.

The Blues wouldn’t look back from there, as Vince Dunn added to their lead and Mackenzie MacEachern would pick up an empty-netter.

St. Louis will head to Dallas for Game 6, with a chance to advance to the #UnitedCup Western Conference Final and face the winner of Edmonton vs. Vancouver.

Game 5: Philadelphia Flyers vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Thank you, to everyone who tuned into our bonus coverage of the Flyers-Hurricanes Game 5, which was broadcast live on our Twitter account on Friday afternoon. We will be sure to have similar content in the near future!

A frantic 1st frame had the two teams exchange deuces, with Voracek and Van Riemsdyk opening the scoring for the Flyers, quickly to be countered by Williams and Necas for Carolina.

Sebastian Aho had the lone goal in the 2nd.

The Flyers found themselves down late in the 3rd period, but ex-Oiler Tyler Pitlick would tie things up in the final minutes, sending this game to overtime.

      Thanks, Chiarelli.

Unfortunately for Pitlick and company, Nino Niederreiter would bury an absolute snipe in overtime, to give the Hurricanes the win and a 3-2 series lead.

Game 5: Boston Bruins vs. Tamps Bay Lightning

Many fans didn’t wake up from their naps for the 3rd period of this one, as the 1st and 2nd were absolute sleepers.

Brad Marchand would finally break the goose egg in the 3rd, with his 4th of the playoffs, soon to be followed by Alex Killorn.

      This game would need overtime.

Nikita Kucherov continued his playoff heroics with his 7th of the post-season in the extra frame.

This series will head back to Tampa Bay, as the Lightning have a chance to clinch a berth in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.

You can catch that game, LIVE on our Facebook page on Sunday night at 7pm as a BONUS livestream! We hope to see you there.
