Vaughn Junior SLR2 Hockey Goalie Pad
Intro & New Features
Vaughn’s SLR 2 Intermediate goalie pads continue the great legacy of the Ventus line and push it even further into the modern goaltending world with the addition of Quickslide and bungee toe ties to an already modern pad.
The SLR2 int pads offer very familiar synthetic leather materials for most of the pad. On the sliding surface Vaughn has gone above and beyond, adding their Quickslide material. This material reduces friction and gives a much more powerful slide for much less work.
The full foam core construction makes the SLR 2 intermediates makes them on of Vaughn’s stiffer pads. This is great for goalies that are looking for a more blocking style of play that want a hard rebound and large surface area, but find other pads too stiff still.
The Ventus line for this year features a no-break core with a precurved design to allow the butterfly to close easier. The nobreak design works in conjunction with the foam core to create the modern pad feel that the Ventus is known for.
Unlike its sister line the Velocities, the SLR 2 Int pads have a 60* boot that allows the pad to sit higher on the skate of the goaltender, which allows for better puck deflection to the corners and an overall taller pad for the same measurements.
The knee cradle that these knee intermediate pads feature is widened to allow for a more effective pad rotation when compared to previous models. There is also an option of the velcro strap in the knee cradle to either go across the knee or down to the calf for maximum versatility. Finally the suede lining helps the knee stick to the landing pad so that it doesn’t slip off and contact the ice.
Knee & Thigh Protection
The Vaughn SLR 2 leg pads do not offer any included knee protection, and rely on individual knee pads to provide the best protection for your knees
The strapping of the SLR intermediate goalie pads is one of the most standout parts of the pad. The Rotation Control Strap provides a snug feel, but still allows the pad to rotate properly going down into the butterfly.
The SLR 2 offers a 90* toe that allows the pad to sit flush on the ice for the best possible seal and the most stability while down in the butterfly.
